The directions of the atoms are quite crucial to yield sparse representations of complex signals with low-dimensional and directional structure. As the dual-tree complex wavelets (DT-CW) outperform other multiscale geometric analysis in low computational cost and possessing phase information, their directional sensitivity is only proved by numerical experiments. In this talk, some theoretic analysis of their directional sensitivity is given together with new constructions of DTCWT. In the last part, several applications in image processing are also introduced including noise reduction, compression and enhancement.
