Abstract

The immersed boundary method is an approach to FSI that uses a Lagrange description of the structural and an Eulerian description of the fluid-structure system. Based on the weak formulation, the standard nodal finite element method is used to calculate the internal force density and the transmission force density. Hence, our approach uses a finite element discretizations of the structure while using a finite difference scheme for the Eulerian variables. The proposed method is used to study the fluid-structure interaction problems encountered in human cardiovascular system (left ventricle, artery, mitral valve and etc).
