We introduce the recent progress on the blowup mechanism of smooth solutions to 1D quasilinear strictly hyperbolic systems with a class of large initial data. The component of the smooth solution along the genuinely-nonlinear direction is shown to be 1/3 Holder continuous up to the blowup time. The corresponding singularity is Burger’s type and well described under the modulated coordinate. In addition, to overcome the difficulties caused by the general structure of the system, we establish the elaborate descriptions of the different characteristic directions and the global weighted energy estimates.
