Nana LIU、刘林、张耀宇新加入自然科学研究院 Nana LIU, Lin LIU, Yaoyu ZHANG have recently joined INS

2020年,是上海交通大学自然科学研究院(INS)成立的第十年。INS今年新引进三位长聘教轨副教授,为INS注入新鲜血液!新进团队将进一步增强INS在机器学习、生物统计、量子计算的研究力量。

2020 is the tenth year of the establishment of Institute of Natural Sciences (INS) ,Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This year, INS has newly recruited three tenure-track associate professors,bringing new blood into INS! The new team will further strengthen INS’s research capabilities in machine learning, biostatistics, and quantum computing.

Nana LIU

2016年毕业于牛津大学,获原子与激光物理学博士学位。2016-2018年,在新加坡国立大学和新加坡科技设计大学量子技术中心从事博士后研究工作。2020年6月,加入上海交通大学自然科学研究院/密西根学院。

主要研究方向为量子计算。2019年,Nana LIU 因在量子计算领域的研究成就,被评为MIT Technology Review 亚太地区“10位35岁以下创新者”。2020年,Nana LIU及其合作者关于对抗性量子学习的研究成果在 Physical Review A 发表,并被编辑遴选为Editors’ Suggestion在 PRA 官网作为亮点文章进行报道。

In 2016, Nana LIU received her doctorate in atomic and laser physics from University of Oxford. From 2016 to 2018, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Quantum Technologies in National University of Singapore and Singapore University of Technology and Design. In June 2020, she joined the faculty of Institute of Natural Sciences/ UM-SJTU Joint Institute,Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Her main research area is quantum computing. In 2019,Nana LIU was selected as MIT Technology Review’s “10 Innovators Under 35” in the Asia-Pacific region for her work on quantum computation. In 2020, the research result on adversarial quantum learning by Nana LIU and her collaborator was published at Physical Review A. This paper was selected as the Editors’ Suggestion and was highlighted on PRA’s official website.

刘林 (Lin LIU)

2018年毕业于哈佛大学,获生物统计学博士学位。2018年6月—2020年7月,在哈佛大学从事博士后研究工作。2020年8月,加入上海交通大学自然科学研究院/数学科学学院。

主要研究方向为数理统计,因果推断和机器学习理论,在Nature Communications、PLoS Computational Biology、Statistical Science等学术期刊上发表文章数十篇。其中,刘林及其合作者的论文在线发表于Statistical Science,并由同行发表论文进行讨论,同时对讨论的回复也将发表于Statistical Science同期杂志。2020年9月26-27日,刘林将在The 2020 Pacific Causal Inference Conference上作报告。

In 2018, Lin LIU received his doctorate in biostatistics from Harvard University. From June 2018 to July 2020, he was a postdoc at Harvard University. In August 2020, he joined the faculty of Institute of Natural Sciences / School of Mathematical Sciences, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

His research focuses on mathematical statistics, causal inference and machine learning theory. He has published dozens of articles in scientific journals including Nature Communications,PLoS Computational Biology,Statistical Science and etc. Among them, a paper by Lin LIU and his collaborators was published online in Statistical Science. A discussion of this paper by other fellow statisticians, together with a rejoinder, will also be published in the same issue of Statistical Science. On September 26th-27th, 2020, he will give a speech at 2020 Pacific Causal Inference Conference.

张耀宇 (Yaoyu ZHANG)

2016年毕业于上海交通大学,获应用数学博士学位。2016-2019年,在纽约大学阿布扎比分校和库朗研究所从事博士后研究工作。2019年9月-2020年7月,在普林斯顿高等研究院从事博士后研究工作。2020年8月,加入上海交通大学自然科学研究院/数学科学学院。

主要研究方向为机器学习理论和计算神经科学,多篇论文发表于Physical Review Letters、Physical Review E、Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience等学术期刊。其中,张耀宇及其合作者发现并发展了深度学习的频率原则及其理论,该发现作为深度学习的基本特性获得了同行广泛的关注和引用。

In 2016, Yaoyu ZHANG graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and received his doctorate in applied mathematics. From 2016 to 2019, he carried out research as a postdoc at New York University Abu Dhabi and Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University. From September 2019 to July 2020, he was a member at Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, New Jersey. In 2020, he joined the faculty of Institute of Natural Sciences / School of Mathematical Sciences, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

His research focuses on machine learning theory and computational neuroscience. He has published articles in academic journals such as Physical Review Letters,Physical Review E,Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience. Among them, Yaoyu ZHANG and his collaborators discovered and developed the frequency principle in deep learning theory. This discovery, as a basic feature of deep learning, has received extensive attention and citations from colleagues.
