We consider the following three systems:
1) a parabolic-elliptic PDE stem modeling biological network propagation
2) a parabolic free boundary problem describing the evolution of the trading price of a good on the economic market
3) a Brinkman-Forcheimer-Darcy modified Navier-Stokes fluid flow equation
The three systems are mathematically rather different, but they are ‘unified’ by the inherent need for data assimilation to make them useful in practical applications.
Peter Markowich’s research is in Applied Mathematics, in particular in the partial differential equations which arise in applications. He follows an ‘integrated’ approach, involving mathematical analysis, numerical analysis, computational mathematics and mathematical modeling. He has held distinguished posts throughout the world. Currently he is Distinguished Professor at KAUST (Saudi Arabia) and Professor at the University of Vienna. He was plenary speaker at the ICIAM Congress (2003) and Invited Speaker at the ICM 2010 and he is Foreign Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and Member of the European Academy of Sciences.
